Most business owners are always on the look out of new and efficient ways to bring in new customers.

With the yellow pages being a thing of the past, what should a business with a limited budget do?

Traditional advertising still works if you really know how to test and track it.

Online Marketing has become popular and for good reason. Being able to instantly [today]
reach the exact demographic you want to reach and be able to test it BEFORE spending alot
of your marketing dollars is a huge benefit.

Being seen locally or by the millions is no longer an issue. With Facebook,
Google, LinkedIn, Twitter and more, the sky is NOT the limit.

Even small budgets are able to find out what works and then do more of it with very little risk.

One of the first steps I do with clients is help them understand what the true value
is of every customer and then look at what the best marketing avenues will best serve them.

Some of tools are free. For instance, Google will help you get on the front page of Google.
They love Local businesses. Google loves YouTube and in fact, they own YouTube so they
favor videos. Videos that you can do yourself!

Have you listed your business in all the free Directories? These are called citations
and point right back to your site.
Very cool.

Business owners have never had it so good. Google even has a free Keyword tool that helps
you plan and shows what is being searched for.

Tips for writing great reviews

Writing great reviews helps others discover the places that are just right for them. Here are a few tips:

Be informative and insightful: Be specific and relevant to the place you’re reviewing, and describe what other visitors are likely to experience. Highlight what makes the place special, and try to share something novel and new. From signature dishes to secret sale racks, reviews should reveal the unique experiences that places offer.
Keep it real: Be authentic. Review your own experience, and explain why you liked or disliked the place. Try to be as accurate as possible, and include both the positive and negative aspects of your visit.
Be respectful: Not every experience with a place is going to be perfect. Sometimes you’ll want to share negative feedback. Even if you’re frustrated, make sure your criticism is constructive. Business owners often use feedback to improve their offerings.
Reviews not General Commentary: At times certain locations may become the subject of larger public debate or conversation due to recent news coverage or current events. While we respect and value your opinion, Local Reviews are not meant for social or political commentary. We think there are other forums that are more suited to those kinds of conversations, like blogs or social networks. Please write about your firsthand experience with the place and not general commentary on the place in relation to recent news.
Write with style: People will pay attention when you write thoughtful reviews. Keep them readable and avoid excessive capitalization or punctuation. Use good grammar, check your spelling, and avoid profanity. Choose the right length – a paragraph is great. Be creative and have fun!

The WOW Factor in marketing.

Walmart- love them or hate them. Have you heard about their “Savings Catcher”. Simply scan your rec’t and if there are any local prices better, they give it back to you.

So, what they are doing is taking all the fear out of us consumers,that there might be a better price somewhere else. If time is money and it is to me, then Walmart has made my life and concerns much better.

They’ve eliminated the competition, atleast on the pricing. Of course many of us buy for other reasons but all things being equal, they have solved much of the pricing concerns.

Google Trends- Cool Tool and It’s Free

Do you like nifty free tools that help you with your business or research?

There’s a tool you may find handy: it’s called “Google Trends.”
It’s easy to use – and free.

It can show you what people in your local market search for. It’s
like the Google Keyword Planner (formerly Keyword Tool), but Trends
often does a better job of showing you patterns of search behavior.

For example, let’s say you’re a car mechanic in Phoenix. This
tool will tell you things like whether people in the Phoenix area
tend to search for “car mechanic” versus “auto mechanic,” versus
“auto repair service.”

Or if you really want to market yourself as “car mechanic,” you can
type that into Google Trends and it will tell you in which nearby
town people are most likely to type in “car mechanic.”

It can even give you predictions for what people will be most
likely to search for around specific times of year – like during
the holidays.

You know what services you offer. What’s harder to know is how
your customers go about searching locally for what you offer.
That’s what Google Trends might help you find out.

If you don’t have any burning keyword-research questions off the
top of your head, I still suggest you spend 5-10 minutes toying
around with Trends: You might discover useful facts about your
local market. You can use Trends at http://www.google.com/trends/

Panda 4.0 – Google is at it Again

Google has confirmed that Panda 4.0 is here, starting today!

Matt Cutts from Google recently told us that the next generation of Panda would be more friendly to small businesses. Yea!! Let’s all believe!!!

This is brand new news, so we have to wait and see the impact. If you notice a fluctuation in your traffic after this update, let me know.

Remember, Google has told us before that if you are hit by Panda, you should be able to recover within 2-3 months. So if you’ve taken a hit and haven’t recovered, something is still not right. So dig deeper to find and fix the issue. It could be a number of things but don’t forget what Google always likes and you will be fine.
Don’t try and shortcut the system. It just does not payoff in the long run.

Google is one smart company!!
